Aspire North is here to help young people from each of our partner schools, across the North of Scotland, to navigate the options and opportunities that are available after school, with a special focus on college and university.
Aspire North deliver sessions to find out how we can help you on your journey.
Activities include:
Introduction to Aspire North – This is an interactive session where you meet the Aspire North team and find out more about the programme.
Activity Day – We arrange a day out of school for you to help increase your teamwork and communication skills through various activities.
1:1 Interviews – A chance for you to discuss their aspirations and skills and qualities with staff and receive individualised information, advice and guidance.
Activities include:
Introduction to Higher Education – A workshop to raise awareness of opportunities in Higher Education.
Pathways – A workshop exploring the range of available routes into Higher Education.
1:1 Interviews – A chance for you to discuss your aspirations and skills and qualities with staff and receive individualised information, advice and guidance.
Try it Out – We arrange a taster day for you at some of the local HE Institutions.
Unique and interesting – Explore what skills are required for future study and employment and how to develop these.
Open Day visit: An opportunity to experience a Higher Education Institution and gain an understanding of the courses and facilities available.
1:1 Interviews: A chance for you to check in with staff and discuss your progress so far and their results from the previous year. This is also a time to discuss the pathways you are considering for the next year, including college and university courses.
Interview Skills Workshop: A session familiarising you with the interview processes for different college and university courses. It also gives advice and techniques for use in future employment interviews.
Study Skills: A session to help you prepare for your upcoming exams. Providing a range of techniques and coping strategies to better enable you to succeed at exam time.
Student Life Workshop: A volunteer-led session detailing the realities of the current student experience. It gives insight into how university courses are delivered, timetables, accommodation, societies, and part-time jobs amongst other aspects of student life.
Why Choose You: A session to help you make a start with university applications, with special focus on how to present yourself as a stand-out candidate when writing a personal statement.
Time to Apply: A session outlining the UCAS application process, outlining how to compete the application and clarifying common misconceptions.
Application Interviews: A chance for you to discuss your post-school plans and receive support with college and UCAS applications and on other opportunities available to them.
Next Steps: A session to provide you with advice and guidance on various aspects of university life and the challenges of independent living. We cover finance and budgeting, student banking and bills, and how to stay safe while making the most of the student experience.
SAAS and UCAS Drop In: A chance for you to get support with queries about student finance and university applications.
Results Day Support: Our staff are available on Results Day to provide support and guidance with clearing.
